Things to Do in Port Alberni, BC

There is no shortage of things to do in Port Alberni, BC. There are numerous Port Alberni attractions to visit when you stay with us at the Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel. Port Alberni Tourism is growing annually as there are so many interesting places to see and areas to explore.

SproatLake

Referred to by locals as "a piece from heaven" and popular among campers and picnickers, Sproat Lake Provincial Park in the Alberni Valley has so much to offer families, friends, and solo travellers. From windsurfing, hiking, and boating to fresh water fishing, camping and refreshing clear waters where you can see thirty feet down - there is something for all ages to enjoy here. For those that would rather skip the water activities and bask in the sun, Sproat Lake has beautiful beach areas where you can relax and have a picnic.

Sproat Lake is also home to one of the most amazing panels of prehistoric petroglyphs in the province of British Columbia. The petroglyph, known as K’ak’awin, appears to be telling a story about magical ancient monsters of the lake, but there is still little known about it. When you're there, don't miss out on seeing the largest water bombers in the world! On tour, you will learn impressive details about what the Mars is capable of. It can pick up 27 tons of water in 25 seconds to take to forest fire areas. Each Mars water bomber carries over 27000 kilograms (60000 pounds) of foam. It can make a drop every fifteen minutes. Each drop can cover 1.6 hectares (4 acres). In the summer, you can participate in a guided tour of the gigantic red and white Philippine Mars water bomber. It's definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
