A Night of Wonder Under the Stars – Starlight Movie Night August 6th

As children, many of us have heard stories of our parents and grandparents spending their summer evenings at the Drive-In Movie Theatre, curled up under blankets in the warmth of their own vehicles and snacking on homemade picnics and classic concession snacks. Sadly, many of those theatres have long since closed down, replaced with luxury movie theatres that offer high prices, plush seats and massive screening capacities. While these theatres certainly offer a lavish movie-going experience, the cozy, personal shared experience of the Drive-In have been lost along the way. It is in this theme that Parks, Recreation and Heritage of Port Alberni brings the 6th annual summer Starlight Movie Night on Tuesday, August 6th.

A family-friendly event, the Starlight Movie night offers an enchanting night of entertainment under the stars for those of all ages, featuring great music, plenty of food, and of course an outdoor movie screening, bringing back that classic Drive-In feeling, only without the clutter of automobiles. Previous years have seen upwards of 1,800 people showing up to enjoy the fun-filled night, which in the past has included bouncy castles and face-painting for kids, and numerous concession stands and fantastic live music performances for the rest. And the best part of it all? The entire event is 100% free for everyone!

The headlining feature is always a family-friendly film suitable for those of any age, and is shown on a giant 40-foot inflatable screen. Those attending are welcome to bring lawn-chairs and blankets to make their movie-watching experience the most comfortable one it can be, with additional seating available in the stands. This year, the screening venue has moved from Bob Dailey Stadium to the Echo Minor Ballfield, across from the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

The entertainment kicks off at 7pm, with the film starting around 9 pm when dusk sets in. People are encouraged to show up early to claim their ideal spot and preferred seating.
